Counting My Blessings

Thanksgiving kicks off the busy Holiday Season. Our clients have been coming in a steady stream to pick up a beautiful centerpiece like the one above and view the Christmas decorations throughout the store. This year I'm counting my blessings like never before. Looking past politics, stock markets, gas prices and wars I am grateful to God for all the things I do enjoy. And must I remind myself to see the beauty around me with "fresh eyes" each day. Syracuse is a great place to live.

Tis The Glitter Season!

Round about November I come home with tiny sparkly bits of glitter stuck to my face. My husband will say "Uh oh, the glitter season has started!". Eventually glitter will spread to my entire family. But they don't complain too much because what would the holidays be without a bit of twinkle and sparkle...

One whole corner of the shop is devoted to a "Retro Christmas" theme. It's fun, nostalgic and verrrry glittery.

Happy Birthday Revisited

Flower cakes are not a new idea but they are still a sugar-free and inexpensive way to say Happy Birthday. And, to add an additional element of fun, we decorate the treat with festive cellophane and tissue.

Thank you to our friend Pam who talked me into "baking" her a cake. Another shopper saw the cake and ordered one...then someone else...then someone else.

Crazy Weather!

If you were depending on the weather to provide clues for the upcoming holidays you would be mislead. Here are a few photos of the shop before we get into full blown Turkey season. Can you believe that in 4 weeks we will be setting the Thanksgiving table.

Colleen was having fun with flowers today. Cute designs with jiggly eyeballs and spiders with gerbera, sunflowers, celosia and other wickedly fresh blossoms.

Abracadabra

And now for something completely different-Abracadabra roses, hypericum berries, sunflowers and seeded eucalyptus entwined through an abundant grapevine armenture. The natural stems were then wrapped with moss green French ribbon and secured with green pearl pins.

Wrapping ribbon around stems is a common and economical way to finsh a bridesmaid bouquet but the bold choice of plant material really makes this design zing.

Little Detail - Big Impact!

Our traditional Bride was certain she wanted an extraordinary look for her cake but was uncertain how to accomplish it. Kim suggested renting our large silver cake stand and all the guests oohed and aaahed!

Ten years to find this cutie!

In 1997 while on a trip to Germany to visit our friend Gregor Lersch we saw this charming little Nertera on display in his shop. Unfortunately, we could not find anyone in America that knew about them. Finally those clever Dutch Canadians have begun marketing Nertera. We have some in the shop and they are every bit as engaging as in our memories of that wonderful trip.

Very Vogue

Elegant and understated...white hydrangea, Vendela roses, calla lilies, Queen Anne's lace, lizianthus and caladium foliage. A special bouquet of sympathy designed by Kim and sent on behalf of Vogue Magazine.

Yes, it's a fresh rose!!! Mother Nature didn't go crazy...they are colored using an absorbtion dye and each peatal is a differant color. Happy Roses are brand new this week and walk in customers are loving them. A bit pricey but your gift will get lots of attention. Call and ask for Happy Roses.

Happy Birthday Chick

Happy 60th Birthday to Chick! This cake was "pay back" for the fuzzy blue Poppa Smurf lamp sent to a florist friend in Buffalo. It was embarrassing to go through Wegman's check out with so much junk food but the look on his face was worth it. What will the Buffalo florists think of next year! Note the pretty pink rose centerpieces in the background.

SWEET!!

Candy Buffets are always popular with Wedding Guests. The bold and vivid colors were perfect for a hot summer evening. The Staff at Justin's Grill tells us not a single piece of candy survived!
